The PIPER analytics engine aggregates microbial data in an operational context.  This enables verifiable chain of custody and microbial risk assessment at each point in the supply chain. 

Ancera is currently looking for a Director-level microbiologist/molecular biologist to manage a fast-paced product development group focused on developing novel products for food pathogen analysis and animal health.  Prior experience with successful product launches and managing molecular biology or immunology assay development activities is required.  Experience working with food pathogens common in the poultry processing industry is preferred but not required.  


  • Manage the development, validation, and commercialization of antibody-based pathogen capture products on the PIPER platform

  • Manage a multidisciplinary team of scientists to achieve product development goals of Ancera

  • Contribute your expertise to our evolving strategy on developing NGS and/or probe-based hybridization product 

  • Manage a small group of microbiologists and molecular biologists developing and improving assays Ancera’s Piper platform

  • Apply expertise to numerous development projects and participate in ongoing laboratory work

  • Become an expert in all aspects of the PIPER platform

  • Mentor and develop talent of the Biology group

  • Work closely with outside contractors and collaborators

  • Interact collaboratively with the Engineering, Operations, Business Development and Management groups

  • Direct the development of new antibodies and novel probe sets


Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage product development activities resulting in successful commercialization

  • Researcher with strong technical and scientific background in current microbiology and molecular techniques

  • Specific experience developing in-situ hybridization, PCR, and antibody-based assays

  • Experienced using NGS for microbiome analysis

  • Able to design probes for PCR and FISH assays

  • Familiarity with and/or experience setting up NGS experiments

  • Experience managing a biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory

  • Able to effectively communicate issues and results that impact timelines, accuracy, and reliability of laboratory data to senior management

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and validate experiments

  • Skilled at developing novel, patentable solutions to development challenges

  • Hands-on laboratory skills to augment the skills of direct reports

  • PhD in microbiology or related field with a minimum of 10+ years in an aggressive product development role is required.
